“People of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning.”
- Henry Ford
Mark Orvin, CFP®
I started my career in finance in 2008 right before the housing bubble burst, markets crashed and the Global Financial Crisis spread around the world.
Over the next 3 years, I worked directly with hundreds of financial advisors as they guided their clients through the most difficult period of economic history since The Great Depression.
I learned two things:
- Financial literacy is essential to achieve financial freedom
- Financial literacy is rare
For some reason our schools believe it’s important to teach kids how to play the recorder, dissect a frog and calculate the area of a triangle, but they don’t believe it’s important to teach them about money, inflation, debt, saving, investing, insurance, taxes, economics or the real impacts of government spending and central bank policy.
As a result, most people don’t understand how to make the most of their money, navigate the ‘Confusopoly’ that is our financial system or protect their wealth from the ravages of inflation (which, by the way, is NOT 2% or the ‘CPI’).
It took me a few years, but eventually I decided to become a financial planner myself and teach the next generation everything they should have learned about money, but didn’t.
I earned my certificate in financial planning from Boston University and my certificate in Investment Management Theory & Practice from Yale.
I became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, a Certified Investment Management Analyst® professional, a licensed instructor for the Financial Educators Network™, and I started an independent financial planning practice at LPL Financial.
Today, I teach people in their 20s, 30s and 40s how to create wealth and achieve financial freedom.
